Academic Qualification
Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university, or an equivalent professional qualification.
Language Proficiency Requirement
Applicants for the Interpreting or Practical Stream should
- be able to communicate in English at an advanced level, and provide evidence of competence in English such as possessing one or more of the following qualifications:
- Grade D or above in AS/AL Use of English; or
- Level 4 or above in English Language (HKDSE); or
- a minimum TOEFL score of 79 (internet-based); or
- an overall band score of 6.5 or above in IELTS; or
- CET-6 (College English Test Band 6) in mainland China: 500 or above; and
- be able to communicate in Chinese (Putonghua or Cantonese) at an advanced level, and provide evidence of competence in Chinese such as possessing one or more of the following qualifications:
- Grade D or above in AS Chinese Language and Culture (HKALE); or
- Level 4 or above in Chinese Language (HKDSE); or
- a BA degree with Chinese as the medium of instruction.
Applicants for the Technology Stream should
- be able to communicate in English at an advanced level, and provide evidence of competence in English such as possessing one or more of the following qualifications:
- Grade D or above in AS/AL Use of English; or
- Level 4 or above in English Language (HKDSE); or
- a minimum TOEFL score of 79 (internet-based); or
- an overall band score of 6.5 or above in IELTS; or
- CET-6 (College English Test Band 6) in mainland China: 500 or above; and
- be able to communicate in a language besides English at an advanced level, and provide evidence of competence in that language such as a BA degree with the language either as a major component or as the medium of instruction, or equivalent qualification. If the non-English language is Chinese then the qualifications required will be the same as that of Interpreting or Practical Stream.

Essential
- Hong Kong Identity Card (for local applicants); Passport or other identity documents issued by the home country (for non-local applicants)
- Degree certificate(s) / graduation diploma(s), and transcript(s) of the academic qualification(s)
- English proficiency test results (e.g. TOEFL/IELTS results)
Supplementary
- Hong Kong public examination results, if applicable (e.g. HKCEE/HKALE/HKDSE)
- Other relevant test results, if applicable (e.g. GMAT, GRE)
- Certificate(s)/supporting document(s) of scholarship(s) and prize(s)
- Certificate(s) of professional qualification(s)
- Sample(s) of publication or research work/record of research experience/publication list
(b) Confidential Reference
Applicants are requested to nominate up to two referees for providing confidential references. The Graduate School will invite referees via email to complete the online Confidential Reference Form via a designated online platform within two weeks from the date of successful submission of the application. To avoid delay in processing the application, applicants are reminded to check the accuracy of the referees' information (e.g. email address, contact number) and follow up with the referee(s) as appropriate.
(c) Two 300-word self-statements, one in English and one in Chinese, outlining the applicant’s academic interests and objectives. (Applicants for the Technology Stream is not required to provide the self-statement in Chinese.)
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview.
