The Programme aims to provide focused and vigorous training in translation and bilingual communication, with the needs of three main target groups in mind: those interested in translation technology, in the practice of translation, and in interpreting.
All students take two common core courses, along with four stream-specific required courses. They also choose a further three courses from a wide range of electives.

The Technology Stream aims
To provide a formal focus on new technology-based approaches to translation including translation memory, machine translation, localization and audiovisual translation and to make the programme available to applicants who have no knowledge of Chinese
To acquaint participants with essential research methodologies and help them to understand the relation between theory and practice, so that they can better appreciate and articulate the complexities of the use of technology in translation

The Practical Stream aims
To provide intellectual stimulation to participants by encouraging them to reflect on professional issues, to develop conceptual, analytical, and linguistic skills that can inform professional translation activity, and to refine their organisational and presentational skills

To introduce participants to different interpreting practices including consecutive, simultaneous and conference interpreting, and to provide them with extensive practice in the relevant professional skills and strategies
